Okay, I'm an utter n00b to both Linux and the 360 modding community, but I'm in need of a new computer and I'm thinking a 360 mod would be the most cost effective solution. So, this page doesn't say anything about the physical tasks I need to do (do I open the case? If so, what do I do afterwards?) in order to get this working. From the looks of this page it seems like I could buy a 360 arcade, a hard drive, and another xbox 360 hard drive mount and basically get this thing going. Then I'd have a normal xbox hard drive for gaming, and a Linux hard drive for computing without running the risk of getting banned. Pull the old plug-play switcheroo. Is this wishful thinking? What are the potential problems with this? Do I need an xbox with a specific kernel? Are there xbox arcades old enough to have those kernels? If not could I change the kernel? Basically, I realize that it would be ludicrous to answer all these questions within this thread, but if someone provided me with a link (or series of links) to a tutorial that would complete this one, I would be grateful.

Seriously, having a new computer with 360 hardware (especially the updated arcade hardware) for under 400 bucks would be amazing. Sincerely, ATD

Answer: You cannot run linux on your XBOX360 without an old firmware (King Kong exploit) or JTAG. (Google those two things to get more info).

I am very interested on using XBOX360 computational capabilities in AI research. I am experienced with Linux, how could I help you guys to get any newer release working? (I think we could get some help from Canonical, since they aim at sharing Ubuntu as much as possible)
